Feilding is in the Manawatū District
This is the main practical difference. Feilding is administered by Manawatū District Council, not Palmerston North City Council. The national Building Act rules on when a deck needs consent are the same, but if your deck does need a building consent, or runs into a district plan rule like a boundary setback, it goes through MDC. We will tell you at the quote if that applies. Our deck consent guide covers the rules.
Flat sections, big decks
Most Feilding sections are flat, which keeps deck costs down. No tall posts and usually no balustrade needed. It also means plenty of Feilding homeowners go bigger: decks that run the full width of the house, wrap around a corner, or link the house to a sleepout or garage.
Character homes and new builds
Feilding has a lot of older villas and bungalows alongside newer homes. On an older home, a deck usually needs to sit at the right height to meet an original door threshold, and timber tends to suit better than a manufactured board. On new builds, composite is popular because it matches the clean lines and needs no maintenance.
Lifestyle blocks
Out of town, decks tend to be bigger and more exposed to wind, so fixings, bracing and board choice matter more. We are happy to travel to rural properties around Feilding. Just ask when you call.
